An introduction by the Chairman

Masonic Education in Berkshire is well established, having been developed by a number of very committed Freemasons from circa 1995.

The various courses organised by the Committee, dates of which appear in “What’s On” are augmented by a number of demonstration events which, for convenience, have been made the responsibilty of the Chairman. These events are to be found listed on the “Courses” page of this website. The Committee also assist the Provincial Executive by arranging regular meetings to monitor the progress of the Mentoring Scheme which is an important addition to Provincial life.

The objective of all the various training modules is aimed at making Freemasonry a “way of life” so that one of the main objectives of our Order, that of making good men better, is fully achieved. Hence we hope to increase the personal reward and fulfilment each member gets from his membership of a Lodge and to help each individual to get a deeper understanding of the tremendous lessons the ritual of the Order is designed to teach. To quote my predecessor – “a greater understanding of what Freemasonry really means to an individual may also help him in becoming a better “promoter of the art” to the sceptical and uninitiated as well as to his family, friends and business colleagues”.

All the classroom sessions held under the aegis of the Committee are two-way affairs. Whilst it is the aim of the presenters to ‘get across’ a pre-determined message, based on knowledge and experience, those participating are expected to share their problems and experiences for the mutual benefit of all. Similarly, many of the demonstration sessions are followed up with a “free-for-all, ask any question you like” session.

Whilst it is a matter of fact that our courses are aimed at our members, I hope that the work we are doing will impress the casual visitor to this site and perhaps influence those men interested in joining our Order to pursue an application for membership.
