Berkshire Masons Raise Over £2.25m For Elderly Care

Over the past five years Berkshire masons have been fundraising for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. The Institution runs 17 elderly care and nursing homes in the UK with approximately 1100 residents and over 1250 staff. Yesterday evening at a celebratory summer ball held at The Pavilion, Royal Ascot Racecourse, more than 500 guests heard that the total raised was over £2,276,000. This is the highest ever amount per mason to have been raised for the Institution. In thanking the masons for their fund raising efforts, the President of the Institution, William Shackell CBE, said that the donation will make a  significant contribution to the capital investment programme and to support the promise to residents of a home for life regardless of their financial standing. At a time when care homes are in the news for less happy reasons we are proud of our record and reputation in this most important field.
