Stratfield Mortimer Lodge, Lodge No 8239, holds four regular meetings a year, on the 2nd Wednesday in December (Installation), February, April & June, we usually begin (Tyle) our meetings, at 18:00. All of our meetings are held at the Aldermaston Parish Hall, The Street, Aldermaston, RG7 4LW. Following our meetings we enjoy our Festive Board at the Old Mill Aldermaston.
Stratfield Mortimer Lodge was formed from an idea by two Master Masons who were living in the local area and had dreamt of forming a Lodge close to home. Planning meetings for this new lodge were often held in the Hind’s Head, Aldermaston. The Lodge was Consecrated in December 1968 at the Masonic Centre in Grey Friars Road, Reading, by the Provincial Grand Master, Rt Worshipful Bro. Brigadier Edwin Flavell.
When the Lodge was first formed, there was not room at Grey Friars Room for another Lodge to meet, so until the Berkshire Masonic Centre at Sindlesham was completed, the Lodge had to meet at the Aldermaston Parish Hall and Dine at the Old Mill. Eventually the Lodge moved in to it’s new home at Sindlesham, and remained there until June 2012, when a request was made to The Provincial Grand Master, to allow us to return to our roots in Aldermaston.
The Lodge continues to thrive and is made up of Brethren from the surrounding area, we are well attended by both members and our guests, who are keen to enjoy our brand of friendly village Masonry. One of the interesting features of the Lodge, as with the other Lodges working out of Aldermaston, is that the Parish Hall is in regular use, by the local community, therefore the Lodge room has to be constructed, deconstructed, and returned to storage for each meeting, which fosters a spirit of teamwork and mutual respect. The Parish Hall is thus left once again, to accommodate community purposes. All Lodges working out of Aldermaston have been actively involved in providing support to the Parish Hall and community projects.
The Worshipful Master and Brethren of Stratfield Mortimer Lodge would be delighted to hear from you if you are interested in finding out more about our work or Freemasonary in general. Please contact the Lodge Secretary at email@example.com
