W Bro Matthew C Walker PAGStB has today been announced as the new Assistant Provincial Grand Master (APGM) for the Masonic Province of Berkshire by the Provincial Grand Master RW Bro Anthony Howlett Bolton OBE.
W Bro Walker will succeed W Bro Julian Pacey PGSD who will retire on rotation as an Assistant Provincial Grand Master at the next Annual Meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge in September 2020 after four years of dedicated service to the Province.
On receiving news of his appointment, W Bro Walker said: ‘My first reaction was shock, then the growing awareness of the huge responsibility that comes with the appointment. I am greatly looking forward to this challenge which is such a privilege coupled with the honour of working within the Provincial Executive team to benefit our special Province’.
W Bro Walker (49) is a well-respected, experienced and active Freemason. Initiated into Aldworth Lodge No. 5191 in 2002, he became its Master in 2007. He was appointed a Provincial Grand Steward in 2009 and a Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies between 2012 -2018. He was appointed to Grand Rank within the United Grand Lodge of England in 2017 and became Master of Berkshire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge in 2019. A member of the Royal Arch, he is to be installed as MEZ in Reading Old Boys Chapter No. 3545 In March 2020.
Born, raised and educated in Berkshire, Matthew is a married man who lives in Berkshire and has two children who are both at University. After a period working in construction, he joined the family business and had the experience of working with his Grandfather, Father, Uncle, Mother, Brother, Cousin and Wife. Thankfully (he advises) not all at the same time! The 5th generation business, now led by his brother, wife and himself, will in a few years celebrate its 200th anniversary.
