Freemasons’ Grand Charity donates £100,000 to Prior’s Court

Prior’s Court, Hermitage-based autism charity, was delighted to officially open “The Freemasons’ Room” in recognition of the generous donation of £100,000 from The Freemasons Grand Charity.  This donation has supported the Young Adult Provision which is aimed at empowering young adults age 19 – 25 with autism and complex needs to lead a fulfilling and purposeful life.

The Prior’s Court Young Adult Provision appeal was first launched in 2008 following significant demand from parents and key stakeholders for a young adult transitional facility to help develop essential life and vocational skills and better prepare them for their move into adult services in the future.  There has been huge demand for the places in the provision with all places filled in advance of opening, clearly demonstrating both the need for such a provision and the confidence that local authorities have in the service.

The funding has made a huge difference to the Young Adult Provision appeal which fully opened in September 2013 and Lucinda Stubbs, Head of Fundraising said “We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the Freemasons’ Grand Charity for such generous support to this appeal.  We needed to fundraise for around 50% of the costs for developing the Young Adult Provision, which equated to nearly £2.6 million.  We are delighted to have achieved this target through the wonderful support we have received from the Freemasons’ Grand Charity and other Trusts and Foundations to whom we are all very grateful.”

On talking about the donation to Prior’s Court, Martin Peters, leader of the Freemasons in Berkshire, said that the Freemasons’ Grand Charity was delighted to have been able to help with the funding for this wonderful project.  To mark the opening of the “Freemasons’ Room” he was pleased to present a further donation for furniture and activity items from the Berkshire Masonic Charity established to support charitable causes in Berkshire.

Since opening, the Young Adult Provision has been hugely successful with a total of 18 young adults living in the new facility.  Through the provision the young adults are learning life skills, accessing education, the community and in some instances off site work placements and all of them are making excellent progress towards adulthood.
