Provincial Grand Master Announces His Retirement

At Provincial Grand Lodge on Tuesday 26th September 2017 the Provincial Grand Master, RW Brother Martin Geoffrey Peters, announced that he will be retiring from Office on Friday 23rd February 2018.

The Most Worshipful The Grand Master His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent has appointed Very Worshipful Brother Anthony Howlett-Bolton, OBE, to succeed him as Provincial Grand Master for Berkshire from Saturday 24th February.

At the end of his address to the annual meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge yesterday the Provincial Grand Master announced that he would be retiring from office so that whoever was to be President of the Berkshire 2023 Festival for the Masonic Charitable Foundation would be in place to launch the Festival Appeal in the second Quarter of 2018.  The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master’s last day in office will be Friday 23rd February 2018.  He also announced that The Most Worshipful The Grand Master His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent has appointed Very Worshipful Brother Anthony Howlett-Bolton, OBE, to succeed him as Provincial Grand Master for Berkshire from Saturday 24th February.  The date for the investiture will be announced in due course.

 

In his address RW Bro Martin Peters said “I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the incredible support I have received from the Brethren of Berkshire during the exciting journey of the past six years, without which we could not possibly have made the very considerable progress that has been made, but I shall be 76 next month and this vibrant Province deserves a younger leader to continue that journey,  I could not be more pleased that The Most Worshipful The Grand Master has invited VW Bro Anthony Howlett-Bolton to succeed me and I know that his leadership, energy, enthusiasm and vision will ensure that this Province continues to prosper.  On your behalf, Brethren, I congratulate VW Bro Anthony on his preferment and I know that he will receive the same outstanding support that you have given to me.”

 

VW Bro Anthony Howlett-Bolton was initiated into Sandhurst Lodge in 1980 before taking time out to pursue a very successful career in the police force, from which he retired as Deputy Chief Constable of Bedfordshire.  In 2007 he re-engaged with Sandhurst Lodge, becoming Worshipful Master in 2010.  In 2011 he joined Berkshire Masters’ Lodge and was appointed a Provincial Grand Steward, joining Berkshire Provincial Grand Stewards’ Lodge in 2012, of which he became Secretary in 2014.  Also in 2014 he was promoted to Provincial Grand Mentor.  He has served on our Strategic Planning Committee since its formation in 2011 and to which he has made a most valuable contribution.  He was appointed an Assistant Provincial Grand Master in 2015 and Deputy Provincial Grand Master in 2016.  The Most Worshipful The Grand Master invested him as Junior Grand Deacon in 2016 and promoted him to Past Grand Sword Bearer in 2017.  He was awarded the OBE in 2016 for his leadership as Chair of the Langley House Trust, a charity which transforms the lives of offenders.
